The race to succeed Mayor Annise Parker is shaping up to be Houston's most crowded in decades, with a half dozen candidates already having declared they will run and another half dozen possibly joining them.
The campaign for Houston's top job will only begin with velocity on Feb. 1, but candidates for months have quietly met with key donors, activists and interest groups in search of the unbeatable coalition that would deliver a victory in twelve months' time. Top-level strategists have been hired, lawsuits have been filed, and now more than ever, the candidates' names are becoming known.
