Houston mayoral candidate Marty McVey is part of a crowded field vying to replace Annise Parker, who is not running due to term limits.

Houston mayoral candidate Marty McVey is one of seven vying to replace the term-limited Annise Parker.
Marty McVey is a private equity investor and a licensed real estate broker. He said his business background will help him in the mayor’s office.
“I see great risk, right in front of us, in our city budget and in other things that the city is doing, so I see that that will have an economic impact not just at City Hall but in our regional economy,” he said.
But McVey said Houston has all the tools necessary to be a leading economy.
“You know, government should act like a business,” he said. “Although it is a service business, that we are providing services to the people of the city of Houston. I disagree with raising the revenue cap — I think that that’s a lazy way, and it also sets a dangerous precedent for the next administration to just easily raise taxes.”
McVey said the city needs to meet promised pension obligations, but a sustainable plan for future firefighters and police officers needs to be constructed.
And McVey said having a poor infrastructure is bad for attracting new business to Houston — and that includes potholes.
